Lamblist 2007
Feb. 2, 2007
Our
breeding season has ended, both VAI and natural breeding. The crosses
described below
are our VAI breeding; our farm breeding can be found at
Breeding rams 2006.
Remember that to purchase the F1
lambs, (those born as a direct result of AI), your flock must be
enrolled in the Federal Voluntary Scrapie program. The mandatory
scrapie rules that control the movement of all small ruminants, is not the same
program, so those flock numbers do not apply for the purchase of F1's.
At the time of deposit, we will confirm the flock number for your farm on the
USDA website at
Scrapie Flock Certification Program - Flock Status Report by State , so
please check that your farm is listed there correctly. We have
occasionally found omissions on the website, but when requested, the corrections
are usually made quite quickly.
We will be taking the VAI deposits a
little differently this year, since we had some folks with deposits who ended up
disappointed last year. The crosses they had reserved, were sometimes
also reserved for the twin and then just a single was born, or the desired
cross produced only rams, or horns, or no horns, or something equally disappointing.
By this time, when looking at other choices, many of the other lambs on the
wish list had already been chosen, leaving a reserved buyer without a choice
AI lamb.
So this year the VAI reservation policies are as
follows:
The VAI list was only released on January 1st so
that we could be fairly
confident that the pregnancies are holding. Occasionally ewes
do miscarry later in the season, in which case we will take the breeding
off the list.
We are accepting $100 deposits in order to get on the
VAI reservation list; one, $100 deposit reserving the choice of one lamb.
The reservations are taken in order and allow the buyers to choose from the
AI lamblist in turn. First deposit in, gets first choice of the
lamblist come spring, second deposit, gets second choice, etc. We have
deposits in on three polled lambs and two horned lambs so far, and we will update this page as
winter progresses to let
you know where you will be on the reservation list. Please remember
that if you make a deposit, and it turns out that you do not find a lamb on
the spring list that meets your requirements, that we will promptly return
your deposit at that time.
As we did last year, we will post the lambing journal
throughout the lambing season to
keep you up-to-date on what lambs have been born. I will try to keep
it current with photos on a daily basis, time allowing, so that you can watch
the progress of your favorite crosses this way, and start to develop your list
of choices.
After lambing is over, we will put together the
price list and send it out to everyone who has made a reservation. If a
lamb is being kept for our flock, then he or she will not be published
on this lamblist, or will appear as an "NFS". The first buyer in line
will pick their lamb, then the second buyer on the list, then the third,
etc, etc. There will the expectation of due diligence on the part of the
buyers to make their picks, so please be starting to mull over your choices
as the lambing journal is published. In this way we can move down the
list in a way that is fair to everyone.
When the reserved buyers
make their choices, the balance of the one third deposits will be due at
this time, and
the lamblist will be published on the website.
The usual one third deposit rules will apply, that this is "earnest money"
that allows us to safely list a lamb as "reserved" on the published
lamblist. If a reserved buyer is not ready to make their choice at the time
we publish the lamblist to the website, they can
let the deposit ride and hope that their favorite lambs do not sell.
As always, if there is nothing that you want on the
lamblist, we will refund your $100 reservation deposit when the lamblist is published
to the website. Later in
the season, if the reserved lamb does not grow out well, then you can either
move the one third deposit to another available lamb or accept a refund.
If a buyer cancels out of their purchase after the one third deposit is
made, and the lamb is still healthy and for sale, the deposit may not be
refundable at that time.
