April 20, 2008 is a really busy day with four ewes lambing.  We had to keep close watch as some of them were right at the same time, right next to each other; prime situation for lamb stealing!

Yearling 129T gave us a moorit gray ewe lamb, 232U with sire FFC-363P.

Yearling 116T, Clover, one of our Ormur triplets, had a lovely black ewe lamb, 233U.  Clover was a little small going into the fall last year and we decided not to breed her.  But she put on an amazing growth spurt and at the last moment we put her in the breeding pen with the Langidalur son BLW-138T.  Wow, look at this ewe lamb!  You would never guess that Clover was a triplet yearling!

Clover is a very careful mother and I've noticed that she always has her body between her lamb and everyone else.

Then our treasured Beauty, BLW-832R had her Grani twins, a black gray ram 234U and a white ewe lamb, 235U.

Our final birth was to quad BLW-613N "Beth" with sire Blettur.  Look at this lamb!  At first we couldn't even begin to decide what she is, but have concluded that she is a homozygous gray with very heavy flashing and rich phaenomelanin on her neck and haunches.  Fanciest lamb this year!!  Ewe lamb 236U.

On 4/21/08, another full day with three ewes lambing.  First of the day is our Langidalur yearling, BLW-122T, bred to FFC-363P.  Their lamb is a polled white ewe, 237U.  She's a cutie!!

Then comes BLW-159T, another yearling, who gives us a white ewe lamb, 238U with sire BLW-138T.

When I was handling the ewe to worm and let them out, I noticed that she has the most amazingly soft and downy fleece!  Even though 159T is a triplet born late in the season, she is doing a great job with her lamb.  I love this breed!

Last of the day was BLW-768P, Topaz, who was bred to Ormur.  It was a beautiful sunny day and I was raking up some old hay out of the barnyard when these jazzy, jazzy twins were born.  First is the moorit spotted ewe lamb 239U, then the black spotted ram lamb 240U.  On one side the ram has a jagged lightening bolt spotting pattern, and on the other, a reverse bull's eye.  Wow!  I don't think we have ever had spotted lambs like these.  A friend says the ewe looks like a Guernsey cow and the ram looks like a Holstein cow.  Here they are!

Check out his lightening bolt.

April 22 we have two singles born to yearlings.

151T had a lovely black/gray ewe lamb, 241U with sire FFC-363P.  A very careful mother, she had no trouble birthing or mothering.

Then at supper time, yearling Ormur daughter BLW-117T had the cutest black spotted ewe lamb, 242U.

Just one birth today, April 23rd.   Triplet 161T had a teeny, tiny black ram lamb around 4:00 a.m.  It was a blowy cold morning and the lamb was chilled by the time I found him.  Mom was trying to mother him, but he was too small to be up and around.  We brought him into the warm kitchen for a classic save.  Vigorous drying with a rough towel, then into a hot box with a hot water bottle, and the hair dryer blowing gently into the box.  Being careful not to burn his skin with the hot air, I pointed it away, but kept the box top folded mostly down to keep the warm air in.   Then melt some frozen colostrum and a quick tube job with an ounce of warm milk.  In just a few minutes, he was perky with his head up and taking the nipple.  Just 3 lbs. at birth and now he is a perky, lively bottle lamb!

April 24th, our Hnykill/Skreppur ewe Juno, BLW-194L, gave us a very good looking Mori daughter, 244U.  White, she must carry solid and moorit, possibly spotting.

Hopefully better pictures next time!

April 26th, more AI lambs.   Our Buri daughter Flash, BLW-465M, had lovely twins with Mori.  Black ram lamb 245U and spotted black ewe lamb 246U.   Flash gives us outstanding lambs each year, and these two look to follow in their siblings' footsteps.  Big, but easily birthed.

April 28th,  whew!  A moose was born here pretending to be a lamb!  Our Kostur daughter BLW-817R had an enormous AI single ram with Grani.  247U is a solid black ram lamb, with some white flashing on the poll of his head, and he must carry moorit from Mom.  We haven't weighed him yet, but he's a big one!  Mom birthed him herself between barn checks and both are doing fine.

April 29th brings us a Ljufur lamb!  BLW-939S, a first time Mom, lambed out in the pasture in the early morning hours.  A big, beautiful white ewe lamb is the result.  She must carry moorit from her dam and carries Rektor, Kari and Serkur, plus now Ljufur.  I am so excited as I wasn't sure until the birth that 939S was on the AI schedule and I so wanted a Ljufur lamb!  Photos as soon as it stops raining.
