He is homozygous for white, horned.

Busi - 03946   There are four VAI straws available for Busi at $60/straw.

In the 2007 slaughter season, Busi's lambs came through as follows:  Chest 8.3, back 8.5, rump 8.5, leg 17.1, wool 7.9, total 82.5.  BLUP scores were as follows:  leanness 130!!!, muscling 102, composite 119.  We do not yet have any Busi lambs.

Dropi: #91975, born 1991, is also from the Hestur Station. He is white with speckles on the head and is horned. Dropi is described by the South Ram AI station as having a long, strong head with a broad neck well connected to the shoulder. The shoulder is well muscled but rather narrow. He has a broad wide chest, a muscular rack, and his les is muscular, big and deep. His feet are thick and his gut is big. In summary, he is a powerful ram with excellent leg muscles. His fleece is white, fine and curly with average quantity. There is tan on the back of his head, his tail and up along his back. Dropi carries color. We had two ram lambs from Dropi in 1999 and they are both stocky and powerfully built. White and well-horned, they are a bold, impressive set of twins.  We had a set of Dropi twin ewe lambs in 2000, and one of the ewe lambs lambed and was a very good ewe lamb mother.  Her milk must be good as her lamb grew very well.

ELDAR - 01922

A horned white ram, born 2001, with the wonderful daughter score of +15  Eldar is homozygous for white pattern.  His overall conformation score is 84.5 with neck and shoulders 8.5, chest 8.5, back 8.5, rump 9.0, leg 18.0, wool 8.0 and overall symmetry of 8.0.  His leanness scores well at 120, muscling 109, composite score 116.  His average lamb scores are chest 8.4, back 8.0, rump 8.4, leg 17.0, wool 7.9, total 81.9.  Eldar has excellent BLUP scores according to Southram's statistics.   A real plus is that Eldar is highly unrelated to other AI sires.   Eldar's scrapie genetics are neutral.    Eldar's straws are still available.

Gaddur - 04950

We currently are out of Gaddur straws.

GARI  02-904 A Laekur grandson, Gari's scrapie status is neutral.  With a total conformation score of 83.5, Gari scored particularly well with an 8.5 on Chest, back and symmetry, and a 9.0 on rump.  His BLUP scores are outstanding; 126 for muscling, 129 for leanness, and an overall score of 128.  Remembering that an average score is 100, these are amazing scores.  Gari is homozygous white and for scrapie status is neutral.  Gari's straws are still available.

GRIMUR - 01928

Grimur is a horned, white ram born in 2001, is a Tuli son, the source of his wide and beautiful horns, and a grandson of the famous AI sire Garpur, 92-808.  Garpur's genetic effect is so strong that he appears often in the lineage of AI sires coming to the station.  Grimur has an overall score of 83.0, with neck and shoulders scoring 8.5, chest 8.5, back 8.0, rump 9.0, leg 17.5, wool 7.5 and overall harmony 8.0.  Grimur is heterozygous for pattern, carrying gray and spotting.  Grimur is still standing at stud at Southram and his progeny results are starting to come in.  His lambs are grading very well, with leg muscling being particularly outstanding.  His mother was a very prolific milker, and Grimur's fleece has thick thel with little tog.  Grimur will bring muscling, excellent horn set, color, fleece and milk to your flock, plus Grimur sired our Supreme Champion ram at Michigan Fiber Festival, BLW-907S.  So we really like Grimur and will be using him again this fall!  Grimur's straws are still available.

Hunn:  #92-809,

wpe1.jpg (2707 bytes)

born 1992, and is from the Hestur Station.  He is a Thoka ram, meaning he carries the Thoka multiple birth gene.  He is white and horned, and has proven to carry both gray and moorit.  Evaluated in 1994, he received a total of 80.0 points.  His eye muscle thickness was determined in 1993 to be 33 mm, and his back fat thickness 4 mm.  He is  described as having coarse shoulders, wide chest, and good conformation, with muscular back and loins, strong feet and well muscled legs.  He is long bodied and vigorous.  His wool quantity is above average with lots of thel.  We had three Hunn lambs in 2000, a set of ewe lamb twins, and a  ram lamb.  We used Hunn again this past fall, and now have seven Hunn lambs on the ground, including a set of quads! We used the moorit/gray Hunn quad, BLW-326L for breeding and kept some of his daughters for the ewe flock.   No more straws available.

HYLUR  - 01-883

Another ram with a wonderful combination of build and wool.  Son of All, 00868, who has a great total score of 85.0, and also the sire of Muli 03907, who has a wool score of 9.0 and total score of 83.0, Hylur is part of a very strong family tree.  Homozygous white horned, the lack of color is more than made up  for by his wool score of 9.0 and his great build scores.  Hylur grades particularly well on his overall symmetry and chest with 8.5, and fabulously on his back and rump with scores of 9.0.  Hylur's lambs are proving to have a unique level of leanness and his daughters are very good milkers.  Hylur is still described at the Southram website.  Hylur is truly an all around ram.     Hylur's straws are still available.

KARI     03-908.  White, horned ram with an absolutely amazing score of 9.5 for wool!   His total score is a very satisfactory 83.5, so this is not just a pretty face, but a conformation ram as well.  He has great scores of 8.5 for chest, back and rump, plus of course that unprecedented wool score of 9.5.   Kari's straws are sold out and he is no longer at the station.  We have his son BLW-860R who is in our breeding ram flock.  860R took third place in the ram lamb class at the 2005 National Icelandic show in Rhinebeck, New York.  He took third to our two rams 801R and 800R, who then went on to take Grand Champion Ram and Reserve Grand Champion Ram, so his competition was tough!

Kjalvar 02-943  Kjalvar is a horned, homozygous white ram with a neutral scrapie inheritance status.  He is a son of Lodi, 00-871 .  With five daughter years in, they score +25 for fertility and 108 for milkiness and he is considered to be a very promising father of daughters.  The BLUP scores for his lambs this fall are very promising as well.  Chest 8.3, back 8.3, rump 8.4, leg 17.1, and wool 7.8 with total scores of 82.1.  Carcass grading:  leanness 124 and muscling 119 for a composite meat score of 122.   Kjalvar may carry moorit as one of his daughters here appears to be homozygous for moorit under her white pattern.  We had two Kjalvar daughters this spring, 123T and 124T.

LAEKUR - 97843.  Laekur is white with fine horns and a great conformation.  His wool has a bit of tan, is of medium quantity, and is described as "rather fine"*.  His back and loins are muscled, his leg is excellent, and his feet are correct.  He is described overall as a "vigorous and dashing sheep". His offspring grade very well and Laekur is on the top ten list in Iceland for meat classification.   Progeny testing results are quite good for Laekur, specifically, (average scores) neck and shoulders 8.1, chest 8.5, back 8.4, rump 8.6, leg 17.2, wool 7.7 and overall harmony score of 8.1.  Laekur's leaness score is above average.  Laekur's dam is a daughter of Thettir who is widely described as an excellent sire of daughters.     Laekur's straws are no longer available.  We have a Laekur granddaughter in our ewe flock, FFC-436R who will be going into the breeding pen this fall.

KUNNINGI - 02-903.  Kunningi is no longer available, but we did have one last straw in the tank last fall, and thankfully the breeding worked, and we had a wonderful set of horned white twins, spring 2006.  The ewe lamb BLW-922S has stayed for our ewe flock, and she is short, and stocky, and very broad in the chest.  Wow!  Kunningi is a Garpur grandson and a Sponn grandson on his maternal side.  His total conformation scores are 85.5 as a lamb and 86.0 as a yearling, wow!  His neck and shoulders come in at 8.5, chest 9.0, which has absolutely carried through to our 922S, rump 9.0, leg 18.5 and wool 8.0.

LJOMI  98-865.   A homozygous white horned ram, Ljomi's dam is said to be very milky.  He has a positive daughter score, and scored a very impressive total of 85.0 as a lamb, and 83.0 as a yearling.   Ljomi's head, shoulder and chest all scored at 8.0, back 9.0, rump 8.5 and leg 17.0 out of 20.  He has a lovely wool score of 8.0, and feet for 8.0 and an overall symmetry score of 8.5 finishes his numbers.  His progeny testing has a very nice leg score of 17.1 in 2003, the most recent year for which numbers are published, and a progeny wool score of 8.0.   Ljomi's straws are still available from Southram but we do not have any in our inventory.

LODI - 00-871

Lodi is a horned white ram born 2000.  He is a grandson of the AI sire Sekkur, 97-836 and is homozygous for white pattern.  His overall conformation score is excellent at 85.0 with neck/shoulders of 9.0, chest 8.5, back 9.5, rump 9.0, leg 17.5, wool 7.5, and overall harmony of 8.0.  It is very unusual to see an AI sire with such high neck and shoulders scores, plus that amazing back score of 9.5!   PLUS he has a wonderful score on leanness at 128 and a positive daughter score of +10 and the mothering index of 115.  The general report coming in to Southram is that Lodi is an excellent father of daughters.   Lodi has some of the highest progeny test results, particularly in total score, rump, leg, and neck and shoulders.  If you want to put some build on your lambs, and would like to add outstanding daughters to your ewe flock, then Lodi will be an excellent choice.  We had a Lodi ewe lamb this year, BLW-919S, and we are so thrilled!  Square build, very broad chest and outstanding size, we will definitely be using Lodi again this fall.   $100/straw.  There are five Lodi VAI straw available.

Shown here is 919S our Lodi daughter; as a lamb, with her own lamb as a yearling, and as a sheared fall yearling.

Moli:  #93986, born 1993.  His mother was ten years old when he was born.  Moli is white and horned.  He has a powerful head, with muscular shoulders and a particularly wide chest.  Back is strong, loin is well muscled and the leg muscle is deep.  Feet are strong and well placed.  Moli was graded in 1995 and scored a total of 85.5 points. His lambs were noted for thick muscling.  Moli has particularly lovely wool.  We have two sets of triplets from Moli and the rams are particularly outstanding.  Well built and bold, they look like real breeders.  Twins 212J and  213J were used for  bred ewes in 1999, and the reports are quite good on their lambs.  Molison BLW-206J was also used for breeding in fall of 1999 and 2000.  He is a particular favorite of ours as he is out of our matriarch, STS-38Z and turns out to be carrying both solid and moorit!  His ewe lamb daughters did very well for us;  BLW-205J is very motherly.  Southram Station tells us that the Moli daughters are very milky.

Moli - 00882

Moli is a horned, homozygous white ram.  He is the son of Moli 93-986 who is already in our flock with a wonderful influence.  Moli 00-882 has wonderful conformation scores; head 8, neck/shoulders 8.5, chest 9, back 8.5, rump 9, leg 18, wool 8, feet and symmetry 8 for a total of 85.0.  His daughters scores are at +5 for fertility and 106 for milkiness.  The average scores for his lambs are chest 8.5, back 8.5, rump 8.7 (!!!). leg 17.5, wool 7.9 and total score 82.2.   Their carcass BLUP scores are 109 for leanness, 120 for muscling, with a composite meat score of 113.  Moli is now dead.

Molur:  #95-812, born 1995, from Hestur Experimental Farm.  He is a horned white, carrying solid pattern and moorit.  He was evaluated in 1996 and garnered a point score of82.5 points.  His eye muscles thickness was measured in 1996 at 29 mm, and the back fat at 3 mm.  Molur is generally described as having fine horns and a vigorous head, muscular shoulders and good conformation.  Back and loins are very muscular, as are his legs.  Feet are correctly placed.  He has a good quantity of wool.    Molur was progeny tested at Hestur, with good carcass results.  We had three Molur lambs in spring of 2000, a set of ewe/ram twins, and a ewe.  They are noticeably broad, stocky and well grown.  The Molur twin ewe has herself twinned as a yearling this spring, and is doing a beautiful job with her lambs.  We will be looking to breed more Molur lambs.   No more straws available.

MORRO - 98845.    Moorit with fine horns, born 1998.  Morro has a good conformation with well muscled neck and shoulders, and a long loin.  Leg muscle is well shaped.  He has a medium quantity of moorit wool; the tog has a grayish tint.  From his description, it appears that Morro carries spotting as well.  We used a wonderful Morroson BLW-192L born to Snowy BLW-F07 who in turn sired one of our rising stars, BLW-416M.     No more straws available.

MULI  03-907

Muli is a wonderful combination of a "fleece ram" and a "conformation ram".   Horned, carrying solid and moorit, he has a wool score of 9.0 out of 10.0, which is outstanding.  He also has a total score of 83.0 which is quite good,  and is particularly so for a ram that was almost certainly brought to the station for his wool.  Muli is the son of Hylur, who also has a wool score of 9.0, and has the amazing conformation total of 85.5, and Hylur is the son of All, who although he only has a wool score of 7.5, has a total score of 85.0.  So clearly the genetics of this family tree is quite strong!  Muli grades particularly well on his chest and rump, with scores of 8.5 out of 10.0.   We had one Muli daughter this spring, BLW-911S and what a girl!  Very large, very square, and bags of fleece.  Her lambs fleece skirted to 3# 5 oz.!!

Noi:  #94995, born 1994, coming from the southeast of Iceland.  When graded, he scored an average of 8.5 overall.  He is valued for the grade and quantity of his wool.  Noi is pure white, with very fine, curly and plentiful wool, excellent overall. We used Noi our first year, and in 1999 we had a set of triplets, twins and a single.  His daughters grew particularly well and were some of the largest yearling ewes.  No more straws available.

REKTOR - 00-889

Rektor is a solid black, spotted, horned ram, born 2000.  He is the grandson of AI sire Moli, 93-986.  His overall score is 83.0 which is quite good for a colored ram as they will never score higher than a 7.0 on their wool.  Rektor has scores of 7.5 for neck and shoulders, 8.5 for chest, 9.5!!!  for back, 9.0 for rump, 17.0 leg, wool 7.0, and overall harmony 8.5.  We have had some beautiful Rektor lambs who are showing what we now call the "Rektor spotting pattern" of flashes more than spots.   Here are some of his lambs:

Rektor's lambs did well at the National Icelandic Show, held on October 14th at the New York Sheep and Wool Fair in Rhinebeck, New York.  His daughters took first and second place in the Ewe Lamb class, with Frelsi Farm's FFC-418R and our BLW-807R, respectively.   Rektor's daughters are getting very good reports coming in to Southram with a prolificacy score of +27 and a mothering score of 122 - wow!  Rektor is still listed at the Southram station.

SEDILL  01-902.

A homozygous white, horned ram with excellent scores.  Wool is 8.0, total of 84.5 and nines on chest, back and rump!  Sedill is the son of Sponn, 98-849 and the maternal grandson of Garpur, 92-808, a favorite of the South Ram station, so his lines are very strong.  Sedill has a black stripe on his horns, with an absolutely perfect curl.  Sedill's daughter did very well for Frelsi Farm at the 2006 Icelandic National show in Alleghan, Michigan.  There are 6 Sedill VAI straws available at $8o/straw.

Serkur: #95-811, born 1995, is a horned black spotted ram, carrying moorit.  His 1996 point evaluation came to a total of 79.5 points, and his eye muscle thickness was measured at 30mm, and his back fat at 7 mm.  Progeny tested in 1998, and his lambs were described as lean.  Serkur's shoulders are  rather high, his chest is broad and his conformation is very good.  Back and loins are muscular, and his legs thick and well shaped.  Generally described as "dashing... and woolish".  We had 6 Serkur lambs in 2000 and all were stocky and meaty in conformation.  The horns are very strong, and we were thrilled to get two moorit lambs! The three daughters all lambed for us their first spring, and did very well as yearling mothers.  They have deep and stocky builds.  We also have two triplet daughters born in 2002 to Solee daughter BLW-47G, moorit ewe BLW-452M and black ewe BLW-454M, both excellent additions to the ewe flock.   No more straws available.

SPONN

Thettir: #91931,

wpe9.jpg (5727 bytes)

born 1991 is from a ram described as an outstanding father of sons and his dam has a lambing rate of 200%. He was scored as a ram lamb and was graded as the highest scoring ram lamb that year. His average score for graded body parts was 8.4. Ultrasound showed him back muscle as 34mm thick with a fat covering of 3 mm. Although his back is not broad, his loin is thick and muscular, his legs are well flexed, thick, short and are well placed. Thettir's lambs were scored in the fall of 1993 with super results for front body and legs. Thettir's daughters scored 101 for 222 production years. Thettir is not recommended for areas where lambs tend to get fat. We had two sets of triplets out of Thettir in 1999.   His daughters really shone as yearling mothers and then have improved from there!    No more straws available.

TRASSI - 99-925

Trassi is a Garpurson, and thus can be a valuable addition to your flock genetics.  Trassi is homozygous for the white pattern and is protective for scrapie.  His overall score is 82.5; neck and shoulders 7.5, chest 9.0, back 8.0, rump 9.0, leg 17.0, wool 8.0, and overall harmony 8.0.  The reports on his daughter are quite good with prolificacy at +29 and overall mothering index at 112.    The carcass grading on his lambs is 128 out of 100 so he can bring some great meat qualities to your flock, as well as the maternal traits.  One negative for Trassi is that his lambs may tend to the fat, but if you have some leaner pastures, he may be a great choice to add to your flock.   There are two Trassi VAI straws available at $90/straw.

TYR - 02-929

Tyr is another grandson of the influential AI sire Laekur.  He was born in 2002 and is homozygous white.  His conformation scores are what you might expect from his grandsire; total of 85.0, neck and shoulders 8.5, chest 8.5, back 9.0, rump 9.0, leg 18.0, wool 8.0 and overall symmetry of 8.0.  He does not yet have reported daughter scores, nor results on progeny testing, but his leanness score is quite good at 110.  Look at those beautiful horns!  We do not have any Tyr in our flock.

UDI - 01-912

Udi is horned and homozygous white and is considered a very promising sire!  His overall score is a very rare 86.5, with scores of neck/shoulders 8.0, chest 9.0, back 9.5, rump 9.0, leg 18.5, wool 8.0, and overall harmony 8.0, plus he has a very high daughter score at +34.  He is the grandson of the influential AI sire Laekur, 97-843.    As of the 2005 slaughter season, Udi's lambs had scores of chest 8.3, back 8.2, rump 8.5, leg 17.1, wool 7.8, and overall scores of 81.9.  The BLUP scores were listed as leanness 109, muscling 126 and composite 116.  He died in the 2005-2006 season.   We had two Udi daughters in spring of 2007, 134T and 135T.  Here are some photos of them:

They are both having a growth spurt as of winter 2008 and are

looking very well.  We will use Udi again.

VISIR 01-892  Visir is horned and homozygous white.    He died in 2004.  Visir's lambs came through the fall sorting as follows:  chest 8.5, back 8.5, rump 8.6, leg17.3, wool 8.0, total score 82.8.  The BLUP scores for leanness 92 (i.e. tends to fat) but muscling came through as 137!  for a composite score of 110.  Our Visir daughter 968S did very well at the 2006 Michigan Fiber Fest, and here is our Visir son of this year, 109T.

The last photo is of the Visir daughter as a ewe lamb.  Check out that chest!

AEGIR - 01916

Aegir is polled white, homozygous for white pattern.  He is a grandson of AI sire Hnykill, 97-095.  Aegir has a really impressive overall score of 85.5, with neck and shoulders at 8.5, chest 8.5, back 8.5, rump 9.0, leg a very good score of 18.0, and wool also wonderful at 9.0!  His BLUP meat scores are 129 for leanness, 114 for muscling and a composite meat score of 123 - wow!!  With these wonderful scores, it will be well worth the wait of a generation or two to get back to color.  The average lamb scores for Aegir's last year are:  chest 8.3, back 8.3, rump 8.4, leg 17.0, wool 8.1, and total 82.3.  Aegir is now dead.  We had a wonderful set of Aegir twins this past spring with our Buri daughter BLW-465M, 909S and 910S.

Here is 909S his first summer.

ALADIN - 00-917.

Aladin is a spotted, mouflon black ram listed as polled, carrying the moorit color.  Aladin's overall score is 79.0 with neck and shoulders 8.5, chest 8.5, back 7.5, rump 7.5, leg 16.5 and wool 7.0  (Note that colored rams in Iceland do not get a higher wool score than 7.0)   We had a wonderful set of Aladin twins this spring with our Eir daughter, BLW-195L.  The ram lamb BLW-901S will be breeding for us this fall.  He has a very thick and heavy fleece, with a ruff that is so long and thick it is falling over his face.  901S has a very square build and we are looking forward to his lambs.

ARFI - 99-983 is polled white, carrying solid, moorit  and spotting.  He is in such demand in Iceland that his straws are no longer available to the North American market, and from his lambs that we have had here, I can see why.  Arfi has a total conformation score of 84.5 with an outstanding 9.0 on chest, back and rump.  His wool score is 8.0 and his scrapie status is neutral.  His daughters are proving to be excellent mothers with a prolificacy of +16 and mothering score of 119 out of 100.  Last year we had a very good set of ram lambs from Arfi with out Buri daughter, 465M, and one of them took Grand Champion ram at the 2005 Icelandic National show at Rhinebeck, New York.  His half-brother 800R took Reserve Champion as well, so we were thrilled when we got a moorit-gray ewe lamb this year, 908S who is joining our ewe flock.

Here are two Arfisons at 5 months.  The black on the left is a twin, the white on the right is a single.

BASSI - 95821.  Bassi is "a jewel"*.   Polled, white, and long bodied  with a "thick and well shaped eye muscle, exceptionally muscular legs and beautiful wool."  He is a new AI sire and so there are few progeny results.  It is hoped that he will pass on his body conformation, in which case he will bring progress into sheep breeding.  We are very pleased with our Bassi triplets born to STS-63B.  Conformation is good, and the lambs are very fleecy.    No more straws available.

BURI - 94806.  Buri is polled, white and long bodied.  He is short legged, with a very muscular back, loins and leg.  He has pure white wool, of above average quantity, and a medium coarse tog.  Buri is described as carrying the gray pattern in the stud catalogue, but he turned out to carry solid pattern.   Buri's daughters look promising in Iceland with good milking abilities.  Our Buri triplets were great; a stocky build, good growth rate, and all around solid aspect.   Buri daughter "Flash" BLW-465M is in our ewe flock.  No more straws available.

Dalur  White polled ram, 97-838.  Dalur was homozygous white with a scrapie inheritance of neutral.  His conformation total was 82.5 with an 8.5 for back, rump and wool,  His muscling score on the BLUP index is particularly good at 131!  With daughter scores of +21 prolificacy and 125 for overall mothering, we were thrilled to see that Dalur has a son standing at stud now at Southram, Longidalur, 01-931.  Our Dalur daughter BLW-608N has a particularly good leg and a very lustrous fleece.  Her twins this year were outstanding.

DIMON - 01-932

Dimon is a polled white ram, who is homozygous for the white pattern.  Imported this fall, Dimon has amazing wool scores, 8.5 as a lamb in 2001 and 9.0 as a yearling in 2002.  Wonderful to have a wool score improve with age!  He has a strong lineage with Eir, 96-840 as his sire, and Skreppur, 92-991 as his maternal grandsire.  Both evaluation years totaled at 81.5.   Dimon does not yet have reported results on his daughters.   Dimon has excellent BLUP scores of 124 for carcass grading and 132 for leanness, one of the highset indexes in Iceland according to Southram's statistics.

EIR - 96840.  Polled, white, born 1996.   Eir is expected to be an outstanding breeding sire.  He is extremely muscular with a great conformation.  His loin is long and broad, and his legs are very well shaped with a thick muscle that completely closes the crotch.  His wool is soft and lustrous, medium quantity, with a fine and curly tog.  His daughters are exceptionally prolific.  We used Eir resulting in a set of triplets in 2001 and daughter BLW-195L consistently gives us lambs that are blocky, well grown with an ocean of fleece.     No more straws available.

ERPUR - 01-919

Erpur is a polled white ram, born 2001.   He has an amazing daughter score of +87!  He is described as heterozygous for pattern and carrying moorit.  Erpur has an overall score of 82.0, with neck and shoulders at 8.0, chest 8.5, back 8.0, rump 8.5, leg 16.5, wool 8.0 and overall harmony of 8.5.  He also has an outstanding leanness score of 130 when average is 100!  Erpur does not yet have any progeny testing results.

Flekkur:  #89965.

Flekkur was born to an eight-year old mother who eventually reached the age of ten, with a lifetime lambing rate of 200%.  He is clear polled and is a spotted solid black.  He has a powerful head, thick neck and well muscled shoulders.   Chest and back are broad, with good springiness in the ribs.  Loin is well muscled and the leg muscle is deep and well developed.  Feet are strong and well placed.  He is long bodied, short legged with a very powerful rear body.  Flekkur's pen of lambs  were graded, and scored the top of the five rams evaluated that year.  Flekkur is described as an improvement breeding ram with high points for lambs  and daughters graded.  We have been really pleased with Flekkur's lambs; his daughters are prolific and are wonderful mothers, and the fleeces are both heavy and soft, PLUS the builds are square and deep.  We really treasure our Flekkur lines!   Very sadly, no more straws available.

Glaesir - 98-876

Glaesir is a polled white ram, born 1998.  He is a son of AI sire Hnykill and is heterozygous for pattern and carries the moorit color.  A very nice total score of 84.5, with neck and shoulders at 8.5, chest 8.5, back 8.0, rump 9.0, leg an unusually high score of 18.5, wool 8.0 and overall harmony at 8.0.  He has neutral reports on his daughters.  Glaesir scored well on progeny testing, particularly so for leanness and leg.

Heli:  #93-805.

was born is 1993 and is a polled black ram, carrying moorit and spotting.  He was evaluated in 1994 and was awarded a total score of 82.0 points.  Eye muscle thickness measured at 36 mm, and back fat at 5 mm.  Heli is long bodied with very muscular shoulders, a wide chest, muscular loins and deep and thick leg muscles.  Feet are strong and correct.  Heli's wool is described as "black and lustrous" with quantity "well above average".  We had seven Heli lambs in spring of 2000, and eight more Heli lambs spring of 2001 and one more in 2003.  We found the Heli-offspring's fall fleeces to be quite good, up to 50% heavier than their age mates.  The Heli daughters  make especially good mothers, particularly as yearlings.   We have Heli in many of our bloodlines now and we wish we had more straws!

HNYKILL - 95820.

wpe6.jpg (4459 bytes)

Hnykill is white, polled and carries mouflon and spotting.  He has extremely good conformation with muscular shoulders, back and loins, and a well-shaped, deep leg.  His wool has a quantity less than average, but the thel is dense and the tog is short.  Both his mother and his daughters are prolific with good milking abilities.   We had seven Hnykill lambs  spring of 2001, three sets of twins, and a single, three of whom are spotted mouflons!  There is heavy phaenomelanin frosting, particularly in the faces of the lambs.  They are all well-built, and growing fast.   These are very good looking lambs.  There has been controversy that perhaps the Hnykill mouflons actually have the single gene gray/mouflon, but sadly, Southram confirms that that is not so.  But they clearly represent a variant of the mouflon pattern as they are consistently frosted with gold at birth.  No more straws available.

HORVI - 99-856  A white, polled ram born 1999.  Horvi's total conformation score is an impressive 85.0, with individual scores of:  neck and shoulders 8.5, chest 9.0, back 8.50, rump 9.0, leg 17.5 wool a wonderful 8.5 and overall harmony of 8.0.    He has a positive daughter score of +5.  Horvi looks to be homozygous white.  So far we have had one set of Horvi twins, ram and ewe, and both had good, short-legged square conformations.  Their calm dispositions are a plus.

KOSTUR - 98895

A polled white ram, born 1998.  Kostur carries solid and moorit, and possibly spotting; his daughter score is an impressive  +25.    Kostur's total conformation score is 82.0, with individual scores of head 8.0, neck and shoulders 8.0, chest 8.5, back 8.5, rump 8.0, leg 17.0, wool 8.0, feet 8.0 and an overall symmetry score of 8.0.    Kostur appears to be unrelated to many of our AI rams.    We had a wonderful set of twins from Kostur spring of 2005.  The ram is a completely polled white, and the ewe is a strongly horned moorit.  She had twins as a yearling this year and has done an outstanding job!

LANGIDALUR - 01-931

Langidalur is a polled white ram born in 2001 and carries solid pattern and moorit color.  He is the son of AI sire Dalur, 97-838 from whom this farm has gotten such wonderful lambs.  Langidalur again has a great overall score of 85.5, with neck and shoulders grading 8.5, chest 8.5, back 8.5, rump 9.0, leg 18.0, wool 8.5, overall harmony at 8.5.  His lambs should bring rapid improvement to a flock.  Their average scores for 2006 are:  chest 8.3, back 8.2, rump 8.4, leg 17.0, wool 8.1, total 82.2.  Langidalur's BLUP for leanness is 114, muscling 104 and composite meat score is 110.   We had a set of twins this spring with Langidalur with a polled ewe, both horned, so his background for horns must be mixed.  We have imported more straws for Langidalur and will be using him this fall.  Southram reports that his mother is a superb milker, and that his scrapie inheritance is neutral.   Langidalur is now dead.

ORMUR - 02-933

Ormur is a polled, white ram born 2002, with an amazing overall score of 85.5!  He scored 8.5 for neck and shoulder, 8.5 chest, 8.5 back, 9.0 for rump, 17.5 leg and a rare and wonderful 9.0 for wool, plus an overall harmony of 8.5.  And on top of all this, he is heterozygous for pattern carrying solid, moorit and spotting.   Southram reports that his offspring are grading very, very well for leanness with very thick eye muscle and good maturity.  Fleece is very good, thick and lustrous, and scrapie inheritance is neutral.   Ormur's most recent average lamb scores are:  chest 8.2, back 8.2, rump 8.4, leg 16.9, wool 8.1, symmetry 8.2, totaling 82.0.  Ormur's BLUP meat scores are, leanness 134 (!!!)  muscling 93 for a composite score of 118.  His daughter scores are milkiness 114 and fertility 98.  We have has some wonderful Ormur lambs!

Shown below are  101T, 102T, 116T, 117T, 188T and 119T.

Skjanni:  #92968, born in 1992 to a mother with a lambing rate of 200%.  He is polled and pure white with lots of good wool.  A broad, handsome head and muscular shoulders.  Ribs are fairly springy, the back is broad and well muscled.  Loin is muscular, although fairly short.  Leg muscles very good, feet straight and strong.  A ram with a long, powerful body and lots of wool. His lambs placed second the year they were graded.  His daughters are said to be strong in prolificacy and milking ability, scoring 109 for 16 production years of daughters. We had one set of triplets from Skjanni in 1999 that have done very well.  The ewe, Claire, BLW-202J was one of the largest yearling ewes and she has proven to be a consistent twinner and effective mother.   Claire in turn has added some wonderful daughters to the ewe flock.  We have no more straws available.

Skreppur:  #92991, born 1992.  Skreppur is polled, pure white, with a short and powerful head and well filled shoulders. Loin and legs are particularly well muscled.  Skreppur is a fine and elegant sheep in every respect. He gets 99 in grade for 88 lambs, and 103 for 11 production years of daughters.  An advantage of Skreppur's lambs is low fat deposits.  We had  one set of twins from Skreppur in 1999, a ewe and a ram.  They both are very large, well built and stocky, with a bold appearance.  The ewe, 208J was one of the largest yearling ewes.  She raised a nice ram lamb last year, and this year was AI'ed, giving us a stocky pair of twins with Hnykill.  Last year we had a set of ewe/ram twins from Skreppur and BLW-149H, and the ewe lamb did well at lambing time.  The ram was sold as a polled breeding ram where he is doing very well.  There are no more straws available.

SNODDI  99-896

Snoddi is a polled white ram, born 1999 and he has been in the catalogue for several years now, always a good sign.  He has great scores, head 8.0, neck and shoulders 8.5, chest 8.5, back 8.5, rump 8.5, leg 18.0 (!!!)  wool 8.5, feet 8.0 and symmetry, 8.0, for a total of 84.5.  He is the son of AI sire Sveppur, and also has Skreppur in his lineage.  His daughter score are good at +5 for fertility and 104 for milkiness.  Snoddi is homozygous for white.

Solon: #93-977, born 1993, Solon is white and polled, with small black speckles on his head.  He was evaluated in 1994 and was given a score of 83.5 points.  Solon has a short, broad head, with a broad neck and muscular shoulders. Chest is deep, the back is strong and broad and overall conformation is good. Legs and loins are particularly thick and muscular, and the feet are correct.  Solon is described as "woolish".  We had a pair of Solon twins during the 2000 lambing season, and they are  very handsome.

Solon:   01-889, born 2001.

Solon is a white, polled ram, homozygous for the white pattern.  His 2001 evaluation as a lamb netted him a total of 84.5 points, and his re-evaluation in 2002, 83 points.  Both years Solon graded an 8.5 on his wool. and 9.0 on his rump, plus the wonderful leg scores of 18.0 and 17.5.  Solon has two wonderful AI sires in his lineage, Hnykill as his great-grandfather and Dalur as his mother's father.  Solon's average lamb scores in 2005, the most recent records for him, are:  cheset 8.3, back 8.0, rump 8.4, leg 17.0, wool 8.3, symmetry 8.1 and total 81.6.  His BLUP scores are very consistent, 119 all the way through for leanness, muscling and composite.  His daughters score just below average at -3 fertility and 97 index.  Solon is now dead.

Chest is deep, the back is strong and broad and overall conformation is good. Legs and loins are particularly thick and muscular, and the feet are correct.  Solon is described as "woolish".  We had a pair of Solon twins during the 2000 lambing season, and they are  very handsome.    Solon has had good effects on our ewe flock and in particular has a wonderful granddaughter, BLW-632N.

SVEPPUR - 94807.  Sveppur is white and polled, and his ultrasound shows an astoundingly large eye muscle thickness.  His conformation is good with broad shoulders and loin, and muscular legs.  He has a "great quantity"* of wool with "thick thel and medium coarse tog".   His daughters graded very high on prolificacy, with good milking abilities.   We used Sveppur on particularly milky ewes and now have a set of triplets and a huge single.  Both ewes have thel-rich fleeces as well, and we have been pleased with the lambs' fleece.  Sveppur's polled genes appear to be strong as all four lambs, including the ram lambs, are well-polled.  These lambs are particularly graceful and attractive.   We have used the Sveppur triplet son BLW-329L for breeding this past fall.

Thokki - 01-878.

A white polled ram born 2001, Thokki is immediately noticed for his immense quantity of shiny, white fleece, and indeed his wool score is an amazing 9.0.  Thokki has an overall score of 83.5 with neck and shoulders at 8.5, chest 8.0, back 8.5, rump  8.5, leg 17.0 and overall harmony at 8.0.  He is heterozygous for pattern and carries spotting and moorit.  Our Thokki twins from 2006 have very, very thick fleeces, and impressive size.  Our Thokki son 920S was breeding for us this past fall.  Southram reports that Thokki has a superb progeny test score of 146; his lambs have a very thick eye muscle.  His scrapie inheritance is neutral.   Thokki's most recent lamb statistics are from 2005, and they are as follows:  chest 8.4, back 8.3, rump 8.4, leg 17.0, wool 8.2, symmetry 8.1, total 82.3.  Thokki's BLUP meat scores are 112 right through, fat, muscling and composite score.  His daughters score well at fertility +10, index 108 with 141 daughter years reporting.    Thokki has tended to throw some horns and scurs as you can see in our Thokkison 920S below.  Thokki died in 2006 and we have no more straws available.
